Definition
GEO1B_CL identifies the household's region within Chile, which is the major administrative level of the country. Regions are combinations of provinces. GEO1B_CL is harmonized solely based on the names of the geographical unit. It does not take into account the changes that may have occurred in the political boundaries of the units. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to the most recent census year can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.
