Definition
GEO2B_CL indicates the province within Chile in which the household was enumerated. It is the second-largest-scale geographic identifier available in the Chile samples. GEO2B_CL is harmonized solely based on the names of the geographical unit. It does not take into account the changes that may have occurred in the political boundaries of the units.
All samples from 1960 to 2002 are coded into the pre-1974 geographic system of provinces. Those post-1974 provinces with population under 20,000 in 2002 are coded into one category: Parinacota, Isla de Pascua, Palena, Capitán Prat, General Carrera, Antártica Chilena, and Tierra del Fuego.
Higher level geographic units (Region) are available in GEO1A_CL. Lower level geographic units (Municipality) are available in MUNICL and MUNICL2. Other geography variables include GEO1B_CL.
