Interviewer instructions
The question seeks to establish the effectiveness of the BCG vaccine. If it is effective, a scar will be left where the child had been vaccinated the BCG, usually on the left arm near the elbow. If the vaccine does not leave a scar, it implies that vaccination was not effective. Take care to distinguish the BCG scar from any other scar that may result from an accident etc. The interviewer should request to see the left arm of the child and code appropriately, it is not a must for you to touch the child's arm.
